Histori

The Hush Puppies brand was founded in 1958 after extensive work by Wolverine to develop practical methods of tannery for pigs for the US military. (Pigskin is considered one of the most durable skins and the government is interested in its use in gloves and other protective materials for soldiers.) Chairman Victor Krause developed the concept of "casual" pig leather shoes to draw attention to the post-growth of the suburbia war in the United States. This brand was instantly recognized as a casual staple food of the late 1950s and 1960s American life.

The Hush Puppies Dog Logo is a highly acclaimed symbol for footwear all over the world. The name Hush Puppies evolved from a trip to Tennessee by Jim Muir, Corporate Sales Manager. After finishing his fried fish dinner at a customer's house, he asked why the fried corn dough balls were called "Hush Puppies." The customer replied that, "fried dough is used by farmers to soothe their barking dog." Muir reasoned that "Hush Puppies" would be an excellent name for Wolverine's new comfortable casual pig shoe boots because when their legs are hurt they are like dogs barking. A brand was born.

Hush Puppies claimed their rubber soles saved the life of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards when he accidentally touched his guitar against an unassigned microphone at a 1965 concert in Sacramento, California. Richards was knocked unconscious, but medical officers believed that Hush Puppies's boots he was wearing kreet isolated him and saved his life.

Mid-1990s

According to The Tipping Point by journalist Malcolm Gladwell, in 1994 when Hush Puppies sales dropped to 30,000 pairs per year, and Wolverine considered removing the brand, Hush Puppies suddenly became "hip" in the club and bar in downtown Manhattan where young children "bought it" in a small shoe store. In the fall of 1995, fashion designers John Bartlett, Anna Sui, and Joel Fitzpatrick began displaying them in their collections. Depending on word of mouth, Wolverine sold 430,000 pairs of shoes, and quadrupled the following year. Hush Puppies won the prize for the best accessory at the Fashion Designer's Award dinner in 1996.

The details of Wolverine's corporate history are (from 1994): 'Taking a cue from fashion designer John Bartlett, newly hired designer Maggi Mercado reviving the 1950s era styles such as "Wayne" (nÃÆ' Â © e Duke) oxford and "Earl" slips - on, offer waterproof suede boots in rainbow of new colors like Pepto-Bismol Pink and Day-Glo green. Both Bartlett and designer Anna Sui featured the shoes in their collection in 1995. Hush Puppies soon began to appear at the feet of famous stars such as Lady Diana, Jim Carrey, Sharon Stone, David Bowie, Tom Hanks, Dennis Rodman and Sylvester Stallone. Hush Puppies also benefit from the trend toward dressing at work, filling the fashion gap between tennis shoes and shoes. Wolverine sent videotape with tips for casual dress at work to 200 businesses across the United States. In the ultimate coup, the company revived the "We found a regular" tagline that launched Hush Puppies in 1958. In 1995, tony stores like Barneys in New York and Pleasure Swell in California struggled to keep shoes in stock. 'In providing evidence of increased sales due to internal changes, this source continues:' In 1996 [Geoffrey] Bloom was rewarded for his remarkable turnaround achievement by becoming an elected chairman. '

Further evidence for internal change to be a major factor for increased sales comes from Jeffrey L. Lewis, Marketing Director of 1992-1996 and Vice President/Marketing Director 1996-2001 in his professional history which includes a '60% increase in domestic Hush Puppies. sales 1992-1997 ',' Doubled Hush Puppies worldwide pairs 1992-1997 'and (1996-2001 parts)' 2,000% increase in suede footwear sales with halo effect that strengthens the whole line 'as well as many other details supporting joint and ongoing sales and marketing changes.

The Wolverine company's public report for early 1994 increased sales with 'Net income for the 16 weeks ending January 1, 1994 increased to $ 7.7 million, or $ 1.08 per share, compared to a loss of $ 571,000, or $ 0.08 per share, for the quarter concerned in 1992. 'The subsequent report mentions the contribution of Hush Puppies:' Hush Puppies Division is reporting much higher revenues'; 'Repositioning our Hush Puppies brand and maximizing sustained growth from our Wolverine Work and Spaces Group will continue to lead the Company's revenue growth during 1994'; and 'The rotation is behind us.'
