The Desert Eagle MRI is a famous semi-automatic pistol for cleaning the largest centerfire cartridge of any self-fed gun. Magnum Research Inc. (MRI) designed and developed the Desert Eagle. The design was refined and the pistol was made by Israel Military Industries until 1995, when MRI transferred its manufacturing contract to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, MRI moved back to IMI, which then commercialized its small arms branch under the name of Israel Weapon Industries. Since 2009, Desert Eagle Pistol has been manufactured in the United States at MRI's Pillager, a Minnesota facility. Kahr Arms gained Magnum Research in 2010.

Magnum Research has been marketing various versions of the Jericho 941 short reverse gun under the Baby Eagle and Desert Eagle Pistols; these weapons are not directly related to the Desert Eagle but have similar visual designs.

Design details

The design for the Desert Eagle was initiated by Bernard C. White of Magnum Research and Arnolds Streinbergs of the Riga Arms Institute, who filed a US patent application for a mechanism for gas-driven pistols in January 1983. This set the basic layout of the Desert Eagle. A second patent application was filed in December 1985, after the basic design has been refined by IMI (Israeli Military Industries) for production, and this is the form that goes into production.

The gun is fired by a single action hammer, and has a manual safety switch on the slide. The ambidextrous safety switch rotates the drum mechanism above the firing pin, causing the firing pin to lock, preventing it from moving forward and reducing the chance of accidental release of the weapon. With security, pull the trigger release the hammer falling down, hitting the firing pin and causing the booth spin to exit.

Desert Eagle uses a gas-operated mechanism normally found on a rifle, as opposed to the short recoil or blow-back design most often seen in semi-automatic pistols. When the round is fired, the gases are ejected through a small hole in the barrel near the breech. It moves forward through a small tube under the barrel, to the cylinder near the front of the barrel. The slide acting as a bolt carrier has a small piston on the front that fits this cylinder. When the gas reaches the cylinder, they push the piston back. Slide slid back on two rails on either side of the barrel, both with a spring action around them, with a large pin inside the camming surface behind the bolt causing the bolt to rotate and open. The cylinder mechanism on the left side of the bolt, called the bolt stabilizer assembly, prevents the bolt from spinning freely during sliding motion, allowing it to align with the barrel properly as the slide moves forward. The loaded spring pin is constantly pressed by the casing, until the chassis is free of the chamber and releases the voltage from the ejector, which causes the casing to fly out, regardless of the extractor claw in the process. The slide reaches the rearmost ride, then rises again under the tension of the springs around the slide rail, the bottom lug of the bolt pushes a new spin into the chamber, then the bolt is locked and the gun can be fired once the trigger is released.

Rotating bolt has four radial locking lugs, with extractor on the right side fitting where the fifth lug will be, and very much like the 7-lug bolt of the M16 rifle series, while the fixed gas/piston gas cylinder resembles that of the Ruger Mini-14 carbine (the original patent using a captive piston similar to a M14 rifle).

The advantage of gas operations is that it allows the use of cartridges much more powerful than traditional semi-automatic pistol designs. Thus allowing Eagle Desert to compete in areas previously dominated by magnum revolvers. The disadvantage of gas-operated mechanisms is the large size of the Eagle Eagle, and the fact that it prohibits the use of unlearned lead bullets, since lead particles that are cut off during combustion can clog the gas release taps, preventing proper functioning.

Replacing the Eagle Eagle into another cubicle only requires that the correct barrel, chunk of bolt, and magazine be installed. Thus, conversions to shoot other cartridges can be quickly achieved. The rim diameter of.50 AE (Action Express) is equal to.44 Remington Magnum cartridge, consequently only barrel and magazine changes are required to convert 0.44 Desert Eagle to a larger, 50 stronger AE. The most popular barrel length is 6 inches (152 mm), although 10 in (254 mm) barrel is available. Mark XIX barrel machine with integral base mounting base, simplifies the process of adding pistol scope.

The Desert Eagle is fed with removable magazines. The magazine's capacity is 9 rounds in.357 Magnum, 8 rounds in.44 Magnum, and 7 rounds in.50 Action Express. The Desert Eagle's barrel features polygonal rifling. The gun is mainly used for hunting, target shooting, and shooting silhouettes.

Variants

Mark I and VII

The Mark I , which is no longer manufactured, is offered with a steel frame, stainless steel or aluminum alloy and differs mainly in the size and shape of the safety lever and slide catch. The Mark VII includes a retrofitted marker (retrofittable to Mark I gun). Mark I and VII are both available in.357 Magnum and.44 Magnum; Mark VII has been silenced for.41 Magnum. The barrel has an 3 / 8 "peg, which an accessory mount can be installed in. Then the Mark VII model is offered in.50 Action Declare with < soup> 7 / 8 "Weaver pattern rails on the barrel;.50 Mark VII will become Mark XIX. The length of the barrel is 6, 10, and 14 inches for.357 Magnum and.44 Magnum, but only 6 or 10 inches for.41 Magnum.

Mark XIX

The latest model, Mark XIX , is available in.357 Magnum,.44 Magnum, and.50 Action Express (or.50 AE). This model comes in a variety of different touches, like brushed chrome or gold titanium. Magnum Research offers this model in 0.440 Cor-bon caliber, a case originating from.50 AE. There were less than 500 original.440 Cor-bon Desert Eagles were imported into the US in December 2000. This was marked with the number 440 on the lower left-hand side of the barrel, in figures twice the size of other caliber, and without previous periods. A sum of 0.44 barrels of Magnum is offset to produce 4,440 barrels of Corbon, but this can be identified by the off-centered ".440" (with period) produced by adding the last 0 to the original barrel mark.

Mark XIX barrels are available in 6 inch and 10 inch sizes only. 357 barrels Magnum has a tear exterior barrel on the left, right and top of the barrel..44 Magnum barrel has a flute on the left and right only, not on top. The.50 AE barrel does not have a flute.

The DE44CA ( D esert E agle. 44 Magnum Ca California) is the only XIX approved for dealer sale to the public in the State of California. This differs from the standard XIX because it has a pin-firing block inserted in its design.

The present-day Mark XIX Desert Eagles now have a new style Picatinny rail along the top of the barrel, as opposed to dove-tail style rails on previous models. Magnum Research also now offers proprietary brackets for.357 Magnum, 0.44 Magnum, and 0.5 AE versions to help reduce retreat.
