Joshua Michael Homme was born in Joshua Tree, California on May 17, 1973. He grew up in a prosperous family in Palm Desert, California. Dad's paternal grandfather, Cap, moved to the area from North Dakota. The surname Homme is from Norway and is believed to have originated from the town of Valle. Additional ancestors include English, French-Canadian, German, Jewish, and Swedish. The Homme family has a local street named after them in the golf community, and the Captain has a park named after him in an exclusive enclave of the Coachella Valley. In 2011, Homme discussed having to "create your own pleasure" as a child growing up in the desert, stating that he did not start playing music to "earn girls or make money" and that he assumed that he would grow into " as well as [his] father ".
Homme also has connections in Idaho and has spoken in the past about spending the summer there, including forming experiences such as seeing Carl Perkins perform at the Sandpoint Music Festival and buying his first electric guitar (Ovation Ultra GP) at a Sandpoint music store. He started playing guitar at the age of nine, after his parents refused his desire to make drums. He took polka lessons on guitars from the age of nine to eleven, where he should not have learned from the barre key for the first two years, or picked up to his third year, lending his unique style of play. Homme joined his first band, Autocracy, in 1985, at the age of 12.

Careers
Kyuss (1987-1995)
In 1987, when he was 14, Homme formed a rock-induced heavy metal punk band with school friends John Garcia and Brant Bjork in Palm Desert named Katzenjammer; he is the band's guitarist. After changing their name several times, first to Sons of Kyuss (they released the EP of the same name), they finally shortened it to Kyuss. The band collected the following cult in the early 1990s, often driving long hours to a desolate location in the desert and placing a generator to perform. This event, known as the "party generator", became an urban legend among rock subcultures. The band became famous for their heavy, downhill, flow-oriented, and famous music for their backstage fights with local LA bands as they traveled to the city to play gigs. It soon brought the attention of Chris Goss, who became a band mentor, helping bands sign labels and producing them exclusively in an effort to defend their voices. Because Homme is younger than 18 at the time of signing the band, his parents must sign on his behalf. Kyuss released three big label albums, Blues for Red Sun , Welcome to Sky Valley , and ... And Circus Leaves Town , all of Yang often cited as a pillar for the development of the rock stoner genre in the 1990s. Kyuss reformed partly in 2010 (now known as Vista Chino), but Homme opted out of reunion.
Queens of the Stone Age (1996-present)
When Kyuss parted company in 1995, Homme joined Screaming Trees as a rhythm guitarist, but did not record with the band. He and vocalist Mark Lanegan became close friends all along. Not liking the band's incessant disharmony, Homme left after more than a year with them. He founded Gamma Ray, a group more centered on his unique style and taste, which later became the Queens of the Stone Age in 1997. The first release under this name would be the Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age an EP compilation featuring songs from both Kyuss and songs recorded from Gamma Ray sessions. Shortly thereafter, Queens of the Stone Age released their debut album in 1998. Initially, Homme had asked a number of singers, including Lanegan, to appear as the lead vocalist for Queens of the Stone Age, but ended up singing for the first time in his career.
After their debut album, Queens of the Stone Age released their next album, Rated R , in which the band used more instruments to achieve a more relaxed, broad and psychedelic sound. Though it was different from the band's debut, Rated R became the queen of the Stone Age's first major blows. The next release, 2002's Songs for the Deaf , however, will get more buzz from the music community and fans. In Songs for the Deaf , Homme continues the filtering of rock and hard rock stoners. The album centered on Homma's memories of uncomfortable rides through the California desert, where she performed in her days with Kyuss, and where there was little to do but listen to Spanish radio stations.
During this time, Homme has fallen with bassist and friend Nick Oliveri. After releasing Songs for the Deaf , their relationship deteriorated until Homme fired Oliveri from the band in 2004. Homme began writing his next album, Lullabies to Paralyze , named after Lyrics of the song < i> Song for the Deaf hidden "Nyamuk Song". Lullabies to Paralyze debuted at number five on Billboard 200 and is the best QOTSA charting album on Billboard 200 to date.
The fifth album Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris , was released in early June 2007 and received positive reviews from critics. After the album's tour cycle, the band took a break to focus on individual projects, where Homme continued to produce and make more recordings outside the band. This break will inadvertently change to a distance of six years between albums.
In 2010, after his work with rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, Homme began performing more live performances with QOTSA. After a fair reissue Rank R , a 2011 birthday release from their debut album and the corresponding tour followed, featuring albums that are played from front to back in the style of the recorded. This is the first time many songs have been featured live since the original release of the album.
On June 4, 2013, after a volatile writing and recording process, Queens of the Stone Age released their sixth album, Like Clockwork, receiving high praise from critics as well as topping the Billboard 200 charts. ... Like Clockwork highlighted Homme's collaborative recording process and featured guests like Sir Elton John, Dave Grohl, Alex Turner, Jake Shears, Trent Reznor, Mark Lanegan, Nick Oliveri, and Homme's wife, Brody Dalle.
Their seventh album, Villains , was released on August 25, 2017.
The Desert Sessions (1997-present)
Homme founded The Desert Sessions in 1997 at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California, describing it as a "unspecified" collective music series. He has stated:
In the Desert Sessions, you play for the sake of music. Because that's great for musicians. If one day it's not enough anymore, or that's not the reason behind you doing it - it's not you raison d'̮'̻tre - then a quick reminder like Desert Sessions can do a lot for you, that's great. It's easy to forget that this all starts from playing in your garage and loving it.
Records are "on the spot" within hours, and the line-up keeps changing, with new contributors added for each new recording. Artists like PJ Harvey, Twiggy Ramirez, Dave Catching, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Ben Shepherd, John McBain, Josh Freese, Chris Goss, Alain Johannes, Dean Ween, and many others from the Palm Desert Scene have contributed to The Desert Sessions recording.
So far, ten volumes from The Desert Sessions have been released. Homme has stated to NME , inter alia, that he will record more material with The Desert Sessions.
Eagles of Death Metal (1998-present)
In 1998, Homme formed the Eagles of Death Metal with his friend Jesse Hughes. The recording of this project first appeared in Homme The Desert Sessions Volumes 3 & amp; 4 , was released that year. Over the next few years, Homme became disturbed from EoDM due to the success of Queens of the Stone Age. In an October 2008 interview, however, he reaffirmed his commitment to the band that said, "This is not a side project for me, I'm in two bands I have music schizophrenia, and this is one of those personalities.
So far the band has released four albums: Peace, Love, Death Metal in 2004, Death by Sexy in 2006, Heart On in the year 2008 and Recently Zipper Down by 2015. Due to his commitment to Queens of the Stone Age and other projects, Homme does not regularly tour the Eagles of Death Metal, but occasionally makes appearances during live performances.
They Awaken Vultures (2009-present)
In July 2009, it was revealed that Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones were recording together for a music project called Them Crooked Vultures. The trio performed their first show together on August 9, 2009 in Chicago at The Metro to a crowd of about 1,100 ticketholder. The band has continued touring with live rhythm guitarist/additional player Alain Johannes. Their album, Them Crooked Vultures , was released by Interscope Records in the United States on November 17, 2009, and by Sony Music internationally. They performed on Saturday Night Live as musical guests on February 6, 2010, and in Austin City Limits on October 2, 2009. This is the first time Homme has collaborated with Garcia since 1997.

This showcases the options the very eclectic of Homme's personal-selected songs, interspersed with his own introduction, (often glowing), and comments on, the various songs on that week's playlist. The choice of Alligator Hour music usually has some sort of thematic, stream-of-awareness-type relationship to each other.

The nine-song album was recorded at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, as well as Homme's Burbank studio Pink Duck. Personal life
On December 3, 2005, Homme married singer and musician Brody Dalle of The Distillers. Homme has more than 20 tattoos. In his knuckles he has the nickname of his grandparents ("Cam" for "Camille" on the left and "Cap" on the right) with the heart and name of his two sons ("ORH" for "Orrin Ryder Homme" and " Wolf "). She has her daughter's name, also Camille, tattooed over her heart. His left arm had a folding knife with "Stay Sharp" underneath, while his right inner arm had a straight razor with the words "Born to Win"; underneath, his nickname, "Baby Duck", is a tattoo shared with his colleague at the Eagles of Death Metal, Jesse Hughes, who has the nickname "Boots Electric" in the same location. Homme also shared a tattoo that read "Freitag 4:15" with former Queens Age teammates Nick Oliveri and Mark Lanegan and their sound engineer Hutch, commemorating the "worst ever show" at the Am Rock Ring Festival in Germany on Friday , June 1, 2001, at 4:15 pm. They all got tattoos on their ribs so that would be the most painful and serve as a reminder.
Homme describes himself as "very conservative politically" and "very socially liberal", considers himself "a falling libertarian". He has several weapons, including the classic Winchester rifle, the sawed rifle, and the 9 mm Beretta target pistol. He has only ever owned a single, 1967 Chevrolet Camaro silver car, which he had since he was 14 years old.

She contracted an MRSA infection, whose immune system could not resist because of stress. The doctor eventually uses a defibrillator to revive after asphyxia. That experience weakened him and was unable to produce music for nearly two years. After this, he was confined in his bed for three months and lapsed into a deep depression, considering giving up his musical career. He has said that this experience greatly contributed to the making of the album Queens of the Stone Age ... Like Clockwork . He praised Transcendental Meditation by helping him recover. In June 2016, he mentioned that the story of his knee surgery might be made by "others," adding that he was "too deep" involving drugs and drowning in depression.
Pseudonym
Homme adopted the pseudonym "Carlo Von Sexron" to praise his bass, keyboard, piano and drumming on albums such as The Desert Sessions Volumes 3 & amp; 4 , Queens of the Stone Age, and Peace, Love, Death Metal from the Eagles of Death Metal. Homme is known as "Baby Duck (King)" for Dalle and a member of the Eagles of Death Metal. He is also referred to as "J.Ho.", "Joe's Hoe" and "The Ginger Elvis". In an interview, Nick Oliveri called Homme "Mr. Lucky".
Legal and controversial issues
In 2004, Homme was arrested for attacking Dwarf frontman Blag Dahlia and Karl Doyle, at the Los Angeles Dragonfly club. Pleasing no contest, Homme was ordered to stay at least 100 meters (91.44 meters) from Dahlia and the club, was sentenced to a 3-year trial with community service, and was forced to enter a rehabilitation program for 60 days.
At the Norwegian Wood 2008 festival in Oslo, Homme invited criticism for his reaction to an audience who threw shoes at him during the song "3's & 7's." Homme referred to the audience as "a fucking jerk chicken" and "a fucking 12 year old boy". The incident led to homophobic allegations from several blogs, which were later taken by mainstream media. Homme replied with a long public letter denying all allegations of homophobia, stating that the tirade was exacerbated by food poisoning and high fever.
After a show by QOTSA at Jay-Z's Made-America Festival in 2013, Homme made a comment on Jay-Z during a radio interview with CBC Radio 2's Strombo Show. He explains that his band was searched by an event security team before the show and refers to Jay-Z's personal interaction with the band as a marketing act:
He has the security of rifling the bands on the way in. I just tell them if you open my bag, I do not play so I guess it's up to you whether we play or not... their idea of ââsearching all my people, means you're in a different place, nobody ever did that [to me]... he also gave us some champagne and wanted us to take a photo with him. And I think, it is not a gift, it is a marketing tool. So I destroyed it. Because I think it's not polite overall. And you do not have to search my people, you have to make love.
In 2016, Homme was involved in an oral quarrel with signature seller Jason Leckrone, whose eyewitnesses said he was mocking Homme for not signing autographs. Homme began arguing with Leckrone and called him "the righteous spoiled bastard". In 2017, Leckrone filed a lawsuit against Homme for attacks and batteries.
In December 2017, Homme was arrested on video kicking camera of Shutterstock Chelsea Lauren photographer into her face during KROQ's 'Almost Christmas' concert in Los Angeles. After staying through the show and photographing the next bands, Lauren went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment. In a statement, Homme claimed that he had kicked the lighting equipment and did not realize that he had kicked Lauren until he was told about it the next day. Lauren disputed this, stating that Homme had made eye contact with him before kicking him. The day after the incident, Homme issued a video response, in which she confessed to kicking Lauren and apologizing to her.
Music supplies
- Guitars
In his approach to selecting his equipment, Homme tends to look for the strange or unique, choosing to stay away from the typical choices of other guitar players. In an interview on guitar in 2008, Homme claimed at the time to have nearly 35 guitars, saying that only 3 of them were "really good". He states that he deliberately does not have Fender Stratocaster or Gibson Les Paul, but that he is always looking for an interesting and unique guitar, which is not always generally accepted as a "quality" guitar, but is still very good to use. He says that he tends to buy "odd, japanese" guitars, or guitars that are already "scarred" and hence have stories.
