Histori

Restoran asli

Charles W. Chessar is a New York City restaurant owner dubbed "Beefsteak Charlie" by Howard Williams, a sports editor for the New York Morning Telegraph. Chessar opened his first restaurant around 1910, and moved to 50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue in 1914, which he operated until 1934. The restaurant is filled with horse-racing photos and frequented by sports fans, and the specialty of the house is steak sandwich. The fire in March 1933 destroyed many racing pictures, though some still remain in the family of the next owner, William Soshnick.

After Chessar left, his namesake restaurant was owned and operated by William Soshnick, who migrated to the United States with his family to avoid anti-Semitic repression in Russ-Poland. Soshnick is one of five immigrant siblings who eventually own and operate a small market, butcher shop, and White Rose bar in New York City. William Soshnick sold Beefsteak Charlie's after retiring in late 1960 and moving to Tucson, Arizona. During Soshnick's ownership, the restaurant became a popular hangout for jazz musicians in the 1950s and 1960s.

Chain expansion

The Beefsteak Charlie restaurant chain started in early 1976 by the owner Larry Ellman's restaurant, the Steak & The Brew chain (part of the Longchamps organization) has proposed a reorganization of Chapter 11 in the fall of 1975: Steak & amp; Brew, Inc., named Beefsteak Charlies, Inc., lots of Steak & amp; The brewery location was changed to Beefsteak Charlie's. Since the chain first filed a trademark on the name "Beefsteak Charlie" in March 1976, and no previous trademark, it seems that there is no direct connection to the namesake restaurant that inspired the chain.

Beefsteak Charlie's marketing concepts emphasize an all-you-can-eat salad bar, as well as beer, wine, or unlimited sangria. The early 1980s advertisement featured an actor in a dress early 20th century playing the role of Beefsteak Charlie, then joined his nephew "Beefsteak Chuck." Two well-known famous chain slogans are "I'll feed you like there's no tomorrow" and "You'll be spoiled."

In 1984, the chain had more than 60 locations, located mainly on the East Coast. The owner of Beefsteak Charlies, Inc., changed its name in 1985 to Lifestyle Restaurants, Inc. In August 1987, the chain was acquired by Bombay Palace Restaurants, through a merger with Lifestyle Restaurants for a reported $ 8.4 million worth of stock. At the time of the 1987 merger, the chain has 48 locations, but has closed 20 sites and lost $ 20 million since 1984. When Bombay filed for bankruptcy two years later, the chain had only 35 outlets.

In 1992, the chain advertised two remaining locations in Manhattan - at 51st Street and Broadway (originally the famous Lindy location), and on 45th Street and Eighth Avenue. In 2000, the franchise restaurant operator, Riese Organization, changed the location of 45th Street to Joe Franklin's Memory Lane Restaurant. The Manhattan location on Eighth Avenue at Howard Johnson's Plaza hotel closed shortly after September 11, 2001.

Some locations remained in existence until the early 2000s. At least in March 2003, one "Beefsteak Charlie's" was advertised as open in Elmsford, New York, although it was unclear if the restaurant had a connection to the previous chain, as trademark trademarks had expired, and new enrollment was filed in 2001. In 2009 , Beefsteak Charlie just opened at Westfield Sunrise Mall in Nassau County, New York, which closed shortly after it opened for business.
