The Sunrise 4A Region is part of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and is one of two conferences in Southern Nevada 4A high school athletics. The Sunrise Region consists of major schools in Henderson, Nevada and in the eastern part of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, Nevada. There are two divisions in Region 4A Sunrise, Northeast and Southeast. The Sunrise 4A Region is part of the Southern Nevada 4-A Region, until the conference split into two separate areas before the 2000-01 school year due to the constant expansion and development of a new high school in the Las Vegas Valley.
The new school, Sunrise Mountain High School, will join the Northeast Division during the 2009-10 school year. Per sanctions NIAA, Sunrise Mountain will become an Independent member during the 2009 football season and will not be able to compete for the 4A State Championship until the 2010 football season. Sunrise Mountain will become a full NIAA member in all other sports sponsored by the NIAA and will be able to compete in postseason play if they qualify.

Proposed reordering
In June 2011, the NIAA Southern Settlement Committee approved the redrafting of Sunrise 4A Area, Sunset Region 4A and South 3A Area which will deploy 24 teams from Class 4A to Class 4A-Divisions I and 13 teams, including 3A members of Boulder City, Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley, to Class 4A-Division II. Teams are placed in the division using a point-based rubric that takes into account every completed school in all sports for the 2009-10 school year and 2010-11. Points are awarded for qualifying for the postseason in most sports, with a higher total points awarded for postseason wins and teams that win regional or state titles.
The proposal will be discussed by the NIAA Board of Governors at the end of June 2011 and is expected to be approved by the board in October 2011 at a meeting in Las Vegas scheduled for October 2011.
