Jenelle Hutcherson (born November 15, 1985) is a hair artist, activist, public figure, designer, mentor youth, and visionary from America. He is best known for being the first openly lesbian contestant and the first contestant to wear a tuxedo at the Miss Long Beach 2011 contest in Long Beach, CA, and the Miss California USA contest in Palm Desert, CA 2012. Participation in the sterotyped contest is ruined in many corners; feminist groups, women who never fit in with the ideals of society about what beauty, hijab women embrace themselves (tuxedos and swimsuits/she adjusts and sews herself for both contests), a standard that only feminine women enter the contest, and that women of heredity minority did not win the contest.
Hutcherson became a name in the LGBT community, the contest community, and made headlines in the media like NBC, CBS, KCAL9, Huffington Post , After Ellen , The Advocate , NOH8 Campaign, Courage Campaign, GLAAD, SDGLN ( San Diego Gay and Lesbian News ), Curve Magazine , GreaterLongBeach. com , Press-Telegram , and Los Angeles Times . The "Vote for Jenelle" campaign became international after AfterEllen.com published an article on Hutcherson in September 2011.

Biography
Hutcherson is a Native-American, Mexican, Spanish, and Tennessa descendant. He grew up in Wasco, CA where his father and mother have their own business (Golden Empire Fire Protection). He attended elementary school in the public school system and in high school was diverted to a private school of Christian organizations.
At the age of 10 his father died of AIDS. He did not have the disease most assumed at the time because of ignorance, but from the dentist's office. Shortly after his death, his mother moved him and his brother to Bakersfield, CA. There he kept the sheep and horses with his family in the local 4-H Club.
In high school, Jenelle is harassed for gaining some weight and can not afford to buy a name brand clothing classmate. Her mother, as the sole provider of the family, did what she could to continue to have a balanced family life at home for her and her older brother. In high school, at the age of 16 he came out, he knew that he was gay and knew since he was 5 years old. In high school, she was hastily treated for allowing her sexuality and who she was known for, and for defending herself.
Her mother questioned why she felt this way and even suggested counseling (though she would be a source of support for Jenelle). Her grandmother was a hairdresser and inspired her to go to school to get a makeup license. He then helped a famous artist in the Afif Hair International area for four years. In beauty school, he is faced with more difficulties, as he is researched by the owner because he is gay openly and even told that he would never make it a hairstylist by one of his instructors.
Through all the time being treated unfairly, Jenelle admits she becomes angry and hates to everyone and herself. He claimed to have let himself be just like these people when he was young, a bully. This attitude causes dependence on hurting others, and loss of self-esteem, which causes drugs and alcohol. Jenelle has stated, "There is a point in all our lives that we must be responsible for who we are and the energy we spend in the world." This is the turning point, to stop living his life as an oppressive adult and use the energy God has given him for good; to help, not to hurt and to spread hatred. The saying that her mother will always say that she resonates with her now: "You have the choice to use your power for good or bad."
He moved to Long Beach in 2008 to work downtown for The Den Salon. He managed to build big clients in his first year and help build the business from the ground up with the salon owners, Andrew and Allison Kripp. Den Salon took it under their wings and helped him grow as an artist and as an individual. Now working as Main Artist Den Salon, the salon and staff have become like family. Together, as a team of outstanding artists and as a strong business in downtown, they overcame the challenge of doing their part to help build a local "fresh face" business network within the Downtown Long Beach area led by Downtown Long Beach Association ( DLBA).
In October 2010, while working at The Den Salon, just 2 weeks before the 2011 title will be given to Monique Villa, Justin Rudd, the director of Miss Long Beach and Southern California Cities Pageant, and Jenelle has an epic conversation that will change forever the way the world sees on contests, women, LGBT communities, and Long Beach. Rudd asked Hutcherson if he was interested in entering the Miss Long Beach contest. He says that there is only one way he will be part of such an event and it is like himself. Justin and Jenelle discuss clothing, (tuxedo and swimsuits), and as a result it was decided that he can not do this until next year (November 2011 for the 2012 title) because it will be different from the originally listed and that it will change the showroom in Long Beach and soon California.
As a mentor for the Youth Through Empowerment (MYTE) Mentoring program for ages 13-18 at the Center of Downtown Long Beach, and stands for all the bullying and negative attitudes that haunt the gay community, Jenelle is ready to take a stand in the contest world. Being very sure of who she is, J enelle hopes to set an example and make people more aware of who they are. Especially those who are opposed and uneducated about LGBT youth and society.
His work and vision has since inspired many people, and his story has entered the world of storytelling with the real purpose of reaching the whole world. After pioneering and seeing her response, Jenelle just had to enter the Miss California USA 2012 contest to reach more people. "To open at least one adult mind or give one hope to a child, to teach more about Love and less about Hate, to inspire and create as a whole." These are words that will resonate throughout the community.
Now a mentor at the LGBTQ Center Program MYTE downtown Long Beach, a renowned hair artist specializing in Three Dimensional haircuts, tuxedo designer and his own swimsuit, a Tuxedo Scholarship program in his name, and a pioneer as a participant the first open contest in local and state history (Miss Long Beach Nov.2011/Miss California USA January 2012) she has overcome the obstacles she faces, as well as being a good example for youth.
