The Judean deserts are located in the east of Jerusalem and descended to the Dead Sea. The main urban areas of the region include Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Gush Etzion, Jericho and Hebron.
Rainfall in the Judaea region varies from 400-500 millimeters (16-20 in) in the western hills, rising to 600 millimeters (24 inches) around western Jerusalem (in central Judea), falling back to 400 millimeters (16 in) in part east. Jerusalem and fall to about 100 mm in the east, due to rainshadow effect. The climate ranges from the Mediterranean to the west and desert climates to the east, with a climatic strip of grassland in the middle.

Judaea Group Aquifer
A study by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from an underground water reservoir under the Judean Desert known as the Judaea Group Aquifer, found that the aquifers started in the Judaean Mountains and flowed northeastward into the Dead Sea with outflows in Tsukim, Kane, Samar and Ein -Gedi appears. The rain-fed aquifer contains an average annual volume of about 100 million cubic meters of water.
Historical Significance
Some believe that Jesus spent his years lost here.
