The Last Day in the Desert is an American drama about the temptation of Christ, directed and written by Rodrigo GarcÃÆ'a. It stars Ewan McGregor, Tye Sheridan, CiarÃÆ'án Hinds and Ayelet Zurer. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 2015. The limited release date is May 13, 2016.

Plot
The Last Days in the Desert follow Jesus in the imagined chapter of the 40th day of fasting and praying in the desert. On his way out of the desert, he fought with Satan over the fate of the ordinary family in crisis, setting himself up a dramatic test with clear human conflict.

Production
On February 1, 2014, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki told the Time Limit that he would work on a movie in the desert with his friends Rodrigo GarcÃÆ'a and Ewan McGregor. He said, "This is a very small, incredibly beautiful script that Rodrigo wrote that we will be filming for five weeks." On February 5, 2014 two actors, Ewan McGregor and Tye Sheridan, joined the cast. McGregor plays the dual role of a saint and a demon. The film was written and directed by Rodrigo GarcÃÆ'a, while the Film and Mockingbird Pictures Division produced the film. Ayelet Zurer and CiarÃÆ'án Hinds play the parenting role of the Sheridan character. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film was shot at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in the Colorado Desert in Southern California.
The film was awarded an alliance of Dolby Family, a grant that allows filmmakers to complete their sound design and mix in Dolby Atmos. Sound Designer and Mixer Recording J.M. Davey and Zach Seivers complete the original sound design and mix and remix of Dolby Atmos. Skip Lievsay, who won an Academy Award for Best Sound for his work on Gravity, served as a mentor for Davey and Seivers for Atmos remixes.
Reception
Review review website Rotten Tomatoes reports 75% approval ratings based on 56 reviews. The consensus is: "The Last Day in the Desert offers splendor and spiritual exploration large enough to compensate for the sometimes ambiguous narrative." At Metacritic, the film reached an average score of 68 out of 100 based on 19 reviews, signaling "generally favorable reviews".
