The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park , formerly Living Desert Zoological and Botanical State Park , are zoos and botanical gardens showcasing plants and animals in the Chihuahuan Desert in their home country of habitat. The location is located on Route 285 AS at the northern end of Carlsbad, New Mexico, at 3,200 feet (980 m) above Ocotillo Hills overlooking the city and Pecos River. Open every day except Christmas.
The park has been a member of the Zoological Association and Aquarium Association (AZA) accreditation since 2002.

The zoo features over forty species of native animals, including pronghorn, badger, bull, bobcats, donkey deer, deer, fox kits, mad monsters, cougar, prairie dogs, reptiles, fourteen species of snakes, and Mexican wolves. A bird cage contains golden eagles, hawks, owls, roadrunners, singers, and turkeys. The garden has greenhouses and hundreds of cactus and succulents from around the world, including acacia, agave, small cacti, cholla, ocotillo, prickly pear, saguaro, bottle (Dyeslirion wheeleri), and yucca.
2.1 miles (2.1 km) own guided trail leads through sand dunes, arroyos, and pine forest/juniper pinyon.
