The Special Equipment Market Association ( SEMA ) of the car aftermarket was formed in 1963 by Roy Richter, Willie Garner, Bob Hedman, Robert E. Wyman, John Bartlett, Phil Weiand, Jr., Al Segal, Dean Moon, and Vic Edelbrock, Jr. and now consists of 6,383 companies worldwide, bringing together the aftermarket manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), media, car dealers, specialty equipment distributors, installers, retailers, and restoration specialists..

SEMA provides services to employees of its member companies that include professional education and development, market research, legislative and regulatory advocacy, industry publications, international business development and business-to-business events.

The largest SEMA event held annually during the first week of November is the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada along with the Automotive Industries Purna Otomotif Week. As part of this event, SEMA and other automotive merchandise trading groups complement one of the biggest events on the Las Vegas calendar. This auto show is not open to the public. Registration as a media, producer, buyer or participant is required.

Histori

The SEMA acronym initially stood for the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association. In 1970, government regulation became a problem and its name was changed to the Specialty Equipment Market to improve the overall image of the association. It was also cautioned that the bureaucrats in the industry could be turned off by the word "pace," which Corporate Council Earl Kitner felt they could associate with "swinging generation." SEMA emerged as a result of the Revell Model of companies seeking to fill gaps in industrial trade regulations. His first president was Ed Iskenderian. Other original members include Roy Richter, Willie Garner, Bob Hedman, Robert E. Wyman, John Bartlett, Phil Weiand, Jr., Al Segal, Dean Moon, and Vic Edelbrock, Jr.

SEMA Show

The SEMA Show is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This is one of the largest conventions held in Vegas. SEMA Show 2013 attracts about 60,000 buyers. The display is divided into 12 sections, and New Product Showcase displays nearly 2,000 newly introduced components, tools, and components. In addition, SEMA Show provides participants with educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities, and more.

The first SEMA show was held in 1967 in the basement of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, before moving to the new Anaheim Stadium in 1974. In 1967 they had 98 manning booths and the presence of 3000 people. In 1967 there were 5 cars on display, including the Ford GT40 1967 at Shelby America and Dodge Dart booths prepared with the race. The early show, held in Los Angeles and Anaheim, California, was an exclusive card-and-masking-tape affair, but in the early 1970s, sophisticated display and marketing techniques were seen throughout the show. At that time, the Exhibition booth cost $ 375. The Show moved to a different location - the new and spacious Anaheim Convention Center (across from Disneyland). Booth's sales and presence continue to increase dramatically. The SEMA Show continues to serve the needs of industry representatives rather than consumers and begins to develop a reputation as a place where business is expected and completed. As part of the SEMA Shows 70s, one of the events to attend was Doris Herbert's Drag News party, which was only ended by the SEMA Awards Banquet.

Then, in 1975, the main entertainers for the Awards Supper were April Stevens and Nino Tempo. In 1976 (the last SEMA Show was held in Anaheim), Show was a bestseller with 570 booths and, in fact, had to reject a number of manufacturers due to lack of space. Over the next few years, the Show grew much larger and soon filled the Convention Center for capacity and was moved to Las Vegas in 1977. Las Vegas was chosen as it provides space for sustainable growth, reliable weather, entertainment with big names and world locations -famous.

In 1977, SEMA's Awards Banquet (run by Sheldon Konblett) was held at the Sands Hotel and featured Norm Crosby. Sheldon Konblett also develops designs for SEMA trophies, which symbolize innovation and product excellence in the industry.

In 1979, Nil Cornelison embarked on a plan for the Innovation Day seminar program, which has since become one of the premier annual association programs. The following year, Innovation Day was a huge success and featured Lee A. Iacocca as the keynote speaker. There has never been any activity held on the day before the opening of any interesting event that approached more than 460 people in attendance. In the same year, Willie Nelson was the top entertainer for the SEMA Awards Banquet.

In 1983, the import section of the SEMA Show was added under the auspices of the brother organization, the International Automobile Association, thus changing its name to SEMA/AI Show. In 1984, there was a combined SEMA/AI/APAA Show in Las Vegas. The Industrial Awards Banquet is held at MGM Grand, and entertainment is provided by The Platters and Gallagher. With all the indications, a move to Las Vegas has been a tremendous success. In 1986, Car and Driver magazine noted that Show was "... a prime opportunity to monitor the culture of West Coast cars without inhaling smoke or fighting highways." In the same year, Jay Leno made her first appearance on stage at the SEMA Show Industry Awards Banquet.

In 1990, on-site registration fees increased to $ 20. All exhibitors were entitled to submit entries to the New Products Exhibition at no cost. In 1992, SEMA/AI Show and Automotive Service Industry, Motorcycle & amp; Association of Automotive & amp; Equipment Manufacturers & amp; The Association's accessories (ASIA/MEMA/APAA Show - formerly Big Show I/APAA) come together to form the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW) in Las Vegas. Both events together boasted more than 1.6 million square feet of exhibits.

In 1997, National Tire Dealers & amp; Retreader Trade Show (NTDRA) combined with SEMA Show. Affiliated with NTDRA's 77-year-old trade show with a share of SEMA AAIW provides benefits for both parties. In the same year, Goodyear sponsored the first â € Å"Night Outâ € SEMA-NTDRA first at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In 1998, SEMA Show broke the 500,000 foot mark with 502,912 square meters of rented space. Every year since then, the Show has set some new records. It now occupies over one million square feet of net worth, attracts over 3,000 media, and has a buyer presence of over 60,000. The SEMA Show now regularly brings together over 2,300 exhibitors, who occupy more than 11,000 booths. Total attendance at the Show is now the top 150,000 manufacturers, buyers and other industry representatives, making contact and doing business.
